Many thanks to all those who have responded to this case -
much appreciated
PPI as a cause of low magnesium - probably all PPIs- ?due
to ileal Mg malabsorption. PPI was stopped in this patient
but had to be restarted due to upper GI bleeding occuring
on H2 antag.
Gitelmans - this patient doesn't have hypocalciuria and
renin and aldosterone normal. Is genetic testing avail in
UK?
Does effect of excessive alcohol on Mg persist for some
time when patient reduces alcohol consumption?
What is the normal range for fractional excretion of Mg in
random urine samples?
Many thanks
Rob
