After reading with interest the information about PCV/HGV drivers re fitness to work I would like some feedback on another situation please.
A 49 year old HGV driver went to his GP for his medical as he is 50 in 2 weeks. He has Ankylosing Spondilitis but does not have any restriction of movement in his neck that affects his driving. He was referred to a specialist after heart symptoms and has now been diagnosed with Bundle Branch Block, no medication & specialist said he could continue driving. Now symptom free.
His GP (who doesn't like HGV drivers in any way shape or form & I have had dealings with him in the past regarding lorry drivers), did the medical 2 weeks ago & said he shouldn't be driving, said he would contact his specialist and then write to the DVLA. The employee contacted me yesterday to say the GP had not contacted the specialist & was going on holiday for 3 weeks from Monday so it would have to wait till he gets back.
As the employee is 50 in 2 weeks and should have his licence renewed, how does he stand? The DVLA medical standards states DVLA need not be notified for Bundle Branch Block.
Kind regards,
