medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
>Modern pronunciations often depend on particular pedagogical traditions
>(e.g. German vs. British), as whether a theta comes out as "t" or as
>"th," or where to put the accent on "parousia" (accenting is itself a
>debated problem). I suspect that from the outset, a relatively
>unfamiliar term/title in Greek such as XRISTOS may have had different
>subtleties of pronunciation in different groups/areas, and similarly
>throughout history, but this would be difficult to demonstrate from the
>preserved evidence.
Bob Kraft, UPenn
