Hello Helen,
We've also struggled with this. Our approach has been to:
1. Try and keep the list of these resources to a minimum, by only making
them available if no (more secure) alternative exists.
2. Display the username/password on a secure Intranet page, one for each
resource.
3. Change the password every year.
4. Review the list of these resources every year to see if there are any
problems.
Best regards,
Paul

Subject: [LIS-E-RESOURCES] Allocated username and password access
Importance: High
Hi all,
Canterbury Christ Church University would be interested to hear how
other institutions are handling e-resources which are authenticated via
an allocated username and password only. Our current print and online
subscription to 'Broadcast' falls into this category and we have delayed
activating our online access due to concerns about being able to
restrict access to members of our institution. How have other
institutions resolved this issue or do you discount such subscriptions
as unfeasible? Do institutions use SFX and/or Metalib to display
password information and, if so, is there a way to display the
information for institutional members only, e.g. not 'Guest' users?
Please feel free to contact me off list if preferred and I will
summarise any responses received to the list.
Thanks very much for your assistance.
Best wishes,
Helen
