For those using Emis, using IE8 does slightly interfere with attaching
letter to LV. You can still save an rtf back to emis but the ability to
link it to a previous consultation by clicking the "hyperlink" to that
episode is lost, so all attachment of rtf files needs to create a new
seperate consultation. (This will be obvious to LV users and double dutch
to anyone else!)

Subject: Re: Internet Explorer 8 - enabling with C&B

Here is what I have discovered in the process of setting up Internet
Explorer 8 (IE8) in Windows XP Pro, and enabling the web-based version of
Choose & Book (C&B).

(The menu is obtained by pressing the ALT key for all the solutions listed
below)

IE8 by default sets Popup blocker ON - C&B will not open with this - answer
is to set it OFF (Tools/Popup Blocker/Turn off Popup blocker).

There are display glitches and the loaded pages do not work properly (for
instance, printing) - you need to set Compatibility mode for the website to
stop this. HOWEVER, you cannot set Compatibility mode on ("for older
websites") because CfH in their wisdom set the C&B browser with menus
disabled, and you enable compatibility mode by selecting an option from a
menu. I cannot understand the reasoning why there is such a basic flaw in
the website design...

This can be sorted out by selecting in IE8 (with another website loaded)
Tools/Compatibility View settings, and adding the website ncrs.nhs.uk in the
dialog box that follows.

There are also a number of options under security (see the bottom of this
message for changes suggested to *some* of these settings).

Of course, when you load up C&B you get a Security warning: "Do you want to
view only the webpage content that was delivered securely?", with the
explanation:

"This webpage contains content that will not be delivered using a secure
HTTPS connection, which could compromise the security of the entire
webpage".

If you click NO to the question (you want to view the insecure content as
well), the same message comes up again, and clicking no a second time allows
full working access to C&B in IE8. Why does the NHS setup the C&B site in
such a way that important security messages have to be bypassed, training
people thereby that these messages do not matter (when in fact the risks the
present are real for the Internet generally)?

Anyway, I hope this helps others, and I would value further comments.

Here follows some suggestions that have been posted elsewhere - I think more
options may need to be tweaked than this, but this will need a lot more
testing. (Why aren't CFH [or whoever is responsible] testing this and
disseminating this information? And why is there not a script to set this up
for all users of IE8?

IE8 fix:-

Some users may get blank Worklists when opening the Choose and Book website.

This fixes it. It adds one step to the initial suggestion that didn't work
with me. This does.

Please note that this is a per workstation/ profile, so you may need to
apply it on more than one machine.

To apply the fix to the PC that is not working:

* Close all Internet Explorer windows.

* Open up a new Internet Explorer window

* Select Tools -> Internet Options

* Within the Internet options screen, navigate to the
Security tab.

* Click on Trusted Sites, then click the Sites button
below it

*                       The website (https://nww.ebs.ncrs.nhs.uk
<https://nww.ebs.ncrs.nhs.uk/> ) must be visible under the web sites
section. If this is not present, please add it, and ensure the Require
server verification (https: <https://> ) for all sites in this zone option
is ticked . If it says it is already in a zone, even if you can't see it
click OK

* Click OK (Trusted sites box will close)

* Click Apply on Internet Option box

* Still under Trusted sites, click the Default Level
button

* Still under Trusted sites, click the Custom Level
button

* Scroll down the list until you reach the
Miscellaneous section. Scroll a little further down the list until you see
the option for Navigate sub-frames across different domains. Please ensure
this option is selected to Enabled.

* Click OK on the security setting box

* Click Apply and OK on Internet Option box

* Close down Internet Explorer, open up a new
instance, and log into CaB. CaB should be working as normal.
