Dear colleagues,
I’d like to announce the publication of “The Dance of Learning: On
Encounters in Adult Second-Language Learning,” which is an abridged
version of my doctoral dissertation.
The format - unusual for academic work – emerged in my attempt to
reflect on the entirety and complexity of adult language learning as I
have experienced it over the past thirty years or so. During the
writing process, the encouragement of my supervisor (a psychologist)
and other committee members (a mathematician and a geographer) helped
me take the risks choosing this format entailed. During the process as
well, I coined the term “crisscross scholars” to focus on scholars who
are multilingual, work in one or more cultural fields, and cross
disciplines; this focus helps me greatly in the academic writing
clinics for researchers I have begun to offer and hope it will be of
value to you, too.
