A one day interdisciplinary colloquium examining urban green space for post-
graduates and early career researchers.
Hosted by CUDEM (Centre for Urban Development and Environmental
Management) at the School of the Built Environment, Leeds Metropolitan
University
Supported by Local Environment: The International Journal for Justice and
Sustainability.
2nd June 2010 at Leeds Metropolitan University
This highly interdisciplinary postgraduate colloquium seeks to provide an
opportunity for postgraduate students and early career researchers to explore

practice-based disciplines such as urban planning and design and
architecture.
There will also be a key note speaker working within the field.
Papers are welcome across disciplines on the theme of Urban Green Space.
Presentations will be expected to last a maximum of ten minutes, to allow for
an extended group discussion of all the papers within a session. All papers
submitted will be considered for publication in a special edition of Local

Organisers
This colloquium is organised by Karen Horwood from Leeds Metropolitan
University and Nadia von Benzon from University of Manchester, two PhD
students who are both working in the field of Urban Green Space, on very
different subjects. After meeting at an urban-focussed colloquium, they
decided to collaborate to develop a colloquium focusing on their joint research
interests.
CUDEM
CUDEM is based within the School of the Built Environment at Leeds
Metropolitan University. The colloquium will take place at the universitys civic
campus, about 15 mins walk from Leeds City Station, which is well connected
nationally. The Centre for Urban Development and Environmental Management
(CUDEM) provides an interdisciplinary environment for academic inquiry and
policy-related research. Research focuses on the development of conceptual
frameworks and their relevance to local, regional, national and international
policy. Projects undertaken for the European Commission, UK government, and
regional authorities have delivered agenda-setting research with significant
contribution to the academy, policy and practice. This includes work on Green
Infrastructure and the Urban Fringe.
