Hi all,
Just to comment on this.
We've been using an in-house system to accept electronic submission of coursework, for approximately five years now. The system generates both known and anonymous versions of reports, and access to each is controlled centrally (generally, academics can only see anonymous reports, and administrators can see both.
This doesn't prevent students from including their name as part of the filename, or as part of the document, but it does work for the most part.
Finally, we're currently looking at TurnItIn integration and Moodle integration; both are possible with a bit of work.
Best,
Ben

Hi Adam
I believe what actually happens is that there is a dedicated site for one department which is for anonymous submissions. The only people with access to the site are departmental administrators who anonymise the assignments by removing name and replacing with the student number if the student hasn't already done this. The files are then sent to a shared drive or elsewhere that instructors can access. After marking the, administrator then releases the feedback to the students.
Some departments here use Turnitin separately, but it can be integrated with Sakai I believe.
Kind regards
Linda

Thanks Linda.
I suspect what will happen is that one person knows who submitted what but then anonymises before passing on to the markers. this is what we are currently doing.
What we'd like to do is allow the markers to download the essays themselves but if they do that then they can see who submitted them.

| Hi Adam
|
| We have implemented Sakai as our institutional VLE. We have a couple
| of departments who actually use the VLE for anonymous marking and I
| gather that they actually have a VLE site just for this purpose; it is
| handled by a departmental administrator rather than a lecturer. I
| will find out how they deal with anonymous marking and let you know.
|
| Kind regards

|
| We're thinking of using Sakai for the anonymous electronic submission
| of essays but this would need some programming to hide usernames and
| the like.
|
| I was wondering what other systems do regarding anonymity? Moodle?
| Blackboard?
