The AHRC Research Centre for Musical Performance as Creative Practice
(CMPCP) announces vacancies for two part-time, post-doctoral Research Posts,
each lasting three years. The first - Research Associate 1 (Quantitative
Methods) - will begin on 1 May 2010, whereas the second - Research Associate
2 (Qualitative Methods) - will commence on 1 August 2010. Further details

Research Associate 1 (Quantitative Methods) on the research project
'Creative Learning and “Original” Musical Performance'
Salary: £27,183 – £35,469 pro rata*

Start date: 1 May 2010
Are you interested in exploring how creativity and originality in musical
performance might be fostered in the teaching studio, practice room and
academic classroom? Would you like to conduct ethnographic, observational,
analytical and other forms of research at two London conservatoires as part
of a team within a major international research centre?
You will be employed on a part-time (50% FTE) basis for 36 months. You will
work under Professor John Rink (Centre Director and Principal Investigator
on this project), with associated project leaders (Dr Aaron Williamon and Dr
Helena Gaunt), and with other members of the AHRC Research Centre for
Musical Performance as Creative Practice (CMPCP), a research initiative
based in the Cambridge Faculty of Music with an overall budget of c.£2.1
million. The Centre features five large-scale research projects, four of
which have associated workshop packages. You will be a member of the team
pursuing the project 'Creative Learning and “Original” Musical Performance',
which will be conducted in association with the Guildhall School of Music &
Drama (GSMD) and the Royal College of Music (RCM). You will work alongside
Research Associate 2 (Qualitative Methods). One of the main purposes of your
role is to provide methodological and analytical expertise and input into
quantitative aspects of the research being conducted by the project team as
a whole.
You will be employed by and based at the University of Cambridge but will
conduct fieldwork in London at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama and the
Royal College of Music.
