LIRG is pleased to announce the call for the 2010 Research award. The
deadline for submissions is Friday 26th February 2010. The Award is
for £2000.
LIRG welcomes proposals from all sectors of the profession, and
particularly invites practitioners to apply, either as sole
applicants, or in collaboration with academic or independent
researchers. Applications from academics in library and information
science departments are also welcomed and proposals which are
submitted in partnership with practitioners are particularly welcome.
Applicants should be residents of the UK or Ireland. For more details

If you have an idea for a research proposal for the 2010 LIRG Award,
but want some help/advice then we have a course for you! "How to write
a successful research proposal: secrets of success" runs in two
sessions. It is being offered in January in three locations: London,
Birmingham and Glasgow. It will cost LIRG members £50. For details see:
http://www.cilip.org.uk/get-involved/special-interest-groups/research/activities/pages/events.aspx
The course, to be held in Glasgow on Friday 8th and 29th January 2010,
is run in
conjunction with CDG (Scottish Division), with reduced rates offered
to CDG members and also to those who attend both sessions.
Why two sessions? The two sessions are linked - with the first
providing an introduction and the second a more practical experience
to develop skills. Participants may attend both or sign up for either
seminar. For attendance at the second seminar, participants will be
asked to bring a draft proposal for discussion in the workshop session.
The CILIP Career Development Group has been awarded the CILIP Seal of
Recognition for its Continuing Professional Development activities for
library and information staff
(http://www.cilip.org.uk/qualificationschartership/seal). Attendees of
this course held in Glasgow will get a certificate of attendance.
