..as I recollect Sudocrem used to have a similar inhibitory effect on the adhesive used in disposable nappies...
Best wishes to everyone for the New Year

Subject: Re: labels and alcohol gel
Antrim Laboratory, similar problem, poor label 'stickability', did not attribute to
specific cause like alcohol gel. The alcohol used in the hand cleanser is
isopropanol - excellent for removing sticky labels! Could equally have been
handcream etc.
Now use a wraparound barcode label from Sealpak (Dublin). About 5mm label
overlap holds any existing label in place. We tried several different adhesives
and paper substrate before settling on present solution. Labels are printed 'on
demand' from Zebra direct thermal printers in Specimen Reception.
Down side is loss of ability to see serum, but this is often the case when
patient label is attached anyway. The label can be peeled off if you need to
recheck the patient details.
Works well for Roche Pre-Analytics. Since barcode visible on 90% of tube
surface, most samples do not need to be turned to present the barcode to
the reader. It's this turning which will snare on a poorly attached label and
cause rack rejection. Very few rejected racks because of barcode read failure.
No problems with cold room & freezer.
Contact Joe or Alan Saul at Sealpak for further details
