It should probably be noted that there may actually be no new
discovery here, but rather reporting based on newly published
findings from remains discovered almost a decade ago. David
Meadows who tracks such things notes at

that the discovery of the leper and the shroud were reported as
far back as 2005 by the BBC at

There is an article (two of the authors of which are the UCL

archaeologist mentioned) on DNA and other analysis of the remains
for family relationships and diseases freely available at
