The Empower, Inform, Enrich report has not been well received - either by
CILIP http://tinyurl.com/yzh7gyx or by Ed Vaizey http://tinyurl.com/ygbe22e
Given that there will be a general election soon it seems unlikely that it will
lead directly to new governemnt policy on public libraries.
However it should be read by public librarians for the following reasons:
1) It is a useful CPD tool as it covers the issues facing public libraries today.
2) Librarians should be talking to their local authorities and local communities
about these issues and developing strategic plans for library services base on
this. For example have you identified which other library authorities you might
join with to provide a united library service and are you talking to them?
