This post includes a response to a request for information sources from
the law rather than medical side of the literature regarding searches of
patient's rooms in hospitals. One list member sent only one link that
leads to a somewhat humorous but perhaps also somewhat sarcastic response
to this request, but is it actually helpful?

That is the end of the post sent to the other list. It is my opinion in
using both databases and Google search tools that searches are rendered
much more accurate with the use of precise phrases rather than the
combining of terms with the boolean operator "and" or its equivalents
either used or implied by search system defaults. Indeed in databases one
has the tools for word proximity searching rather than being limited to
only precise phrase searching in services like EBSCO, FirstSearch, OVID,
Dialog, Datastar and CSA, to name some such services.
Consider the differences in these searches keeping in mind a space
between words in Google is the default for the boolean and operator and
that quotation marks around a group of two or more words create a phrase:
(sport medicine) OR (sports medicine)
Results 1 - 10 of about 20,000,000 for (sport medicine) OR (sports
medicine).
"sport medicine" OR "sports medicine"
Results 1 - 10 of about 12,700,000 for "sport medicine" OR "sports
medicine".
Since Google defaults in search results to the more precise posts, the
limited set of results one will see from this set of results will all be
about sports medicine for both searches. However in more complex
searches, the results seen in the first search's use of the words sport(s)
and medicine may lead to results that are not "sports medicine". Consider
this example:
Results 1 - 10 of about 813,000 for ((sport medicine) OR (sports
medicine)) and basketball and employment.
