Hello
You may all be interested in this email I have received from a techy colleague. Also, you can share with external users so using Bb will be okay for this:
"""
I have a tip that may help with the blackboard e-portfolios and the formatting problem.
The problem appears to be with MS Word rather than blackboard.
Word embeds all sorts of strange things into its documents, which don't display in word, but suddenly muck up the formatting when you copy and paste to other applications.
The box you paste into in Blackboard is a simple HTML editor. It does its best to interpret these embedded characters as it sees fit, but doesn't always quite understand what Word is trying to do. You would get the same results if you tried to paste the Word content into Notepad or any other HTML editor.
It's a bit like trying to convert Pascal into Fortran.
If you save your word doc as a text document, reopen it, and then cut and paste into Blackboard, you will not get the double spacing problem.
The HTML editor is better at taking plain text, and then applying the formatting using the tools it provides."""
I may change my mind if this is the case!!!

We don't use the e-portfolio tool in Blackboard for a variety of reasons but mainly because we need people outside of the university to view parts of students' e-portfolio records.
A the moment we only use Blackboard to send announcements to students reminding them to use their progress files(multi-port). For next year we are developing a building block to enable single sign on and to link to the learning resources in Blackboard to the students progress files, creating more of a personal learning environment and personal storage space from which a variety of e-portfolios could be created.
Thanks

We use EXPO here and have developed a PDP Portfolio. Its being trialled with almost all departments across the uni. We have yet to assess it properly and are looking forward to the next version of the software which I am told has more functionality.

I use EXPO at York with templates. EXPO is great but the templates, and our
links with student records, makes it a little cumbersome.

Has anyone else been using Expo as a vehicle for e-portfolios? We have been
using this successfully this year. It is embedded into Blackboard and
students can use it to develop their own Blogs and Wikis - they love it.

BB is terrible for ePortfolios. Have used it for the past 2 years and many
students choose to build their portfolio outside BB. It is clunky, it
formats pages the way it thinks they should be formatted etc. and most of
the students feel it is inadequate. That's my two penneth!

Hello ladies
I use Blackboard currently, but not sure I can share any good practice, as I
am still experimenting, however would be interested in whether you have
used e-portfolios?
I won't be able to attend the Manchester conference but would be very
interested in seeing your resource if at all possible.
Thank you

Hello Carina
I'm days away from launching a resource for students through Blackboard
which I am demonstrating at the PDP conference in Manchester next week if
you are going? Might also be able to help with a short term demo account if
you would like.

Hi everyone,
Portsmouth is currently looking into a revamp of the ways in which PDP is
offered to students and supported throughout the university. At present we
are pretty much locked into using WebCT Vista but in order to make the most
of what we do have and capitalise on this opportunity to change the way it
works, I was wondering if anyone is using (successfully if possible, but not
exclusively) Blackboard for PDP. I would be very interested to hear what
works, what doesn't, what you've added or taken away and how staff are
supported in its use. Also, if there would be any possibility of having
access to a demo account then that would be very helpful indeed.
Thanks very much for your help,
Carina
