Hello to all,
I just had an interesting experience that Iwould like to share and invite comment.
I am watching the film channel on TV., the filmthat is being aired is Kazan's 'Gentleman'sAgreement', the commercial break comes
on just at the point where it is revealedthat the 'Flume Hotel', where the couple have booked their honeymoon week,
is"restricted". As is my custom as soon as the break comes up I switchchannels, it happens to be the history channel and just at
that exact momentthey are showing newsreel of Slovak Nazis marching in an anti Jewishdemonstration (don't know the exact date ,
circa 1938) carrying their bannersand displaying pictures of Hitler. This moment is, to paraphraseAndre Breton, the fortuitous
juxtaposition of (in)congruent objects;two objects in a kind of accidental montage that reveal a truth inherentin the fiction of
Kazan's film.
I wonder if others have hadsimilar, negative or positive, experiences?
Peace
alan
