*Update on 11th ICAZ Conférence, Paris, France, 23-28 August 2010*
The 11^th ICAZ International Conference will take place in Paris, from
23 to 28 August 2010. Some events will be organised at the Muséum
national d’Histoire naturelle , but most of the sessions will be held at
the nearby campus of Pierre et Marie Curie University (Jussieu). The
organizing committee is expecting 500 to 600 delegates.
Practical information is available in the second circular, on the ICAZ
website (http://www.alexandriaarchive.org/icaz/index.htm). It can also
be sent by email or by postal mail to ICAZ members who will ask for it
at [log in to unmask] <mailto:[log in to unmask]> or at:
J.-D. Vigne, Muséum national d’Histoire naturelle, UMR7209,
Archéozoologie, archéobotanique, Département EGB, CP 56, F-75005 Paris,
France. It contains :
- the main scientific aims, the venue and the guidelines for the conference,
- the preliminary schedule and the list and description of the 30
thematic sessions which have finally been selected by the organizing
committee with the help of the scientific committee,
- the registration fees and the application form for financial support
for participants,
- the application form for pre-registration,
- the information regarding the publication of the proceedings of the
conference,
- the description of the excursions which will take place during and
after the conference, and the pre-registration form for these excursions,
- the composition of the Scientific and Honor committees.
This circular also calls for preliminary titles and abstracts for oral
or poster presentations. The deadline is 20 November 2009 for those of
the delegates who want to make a contribution in a thematic session, but
it will be possible to submit papers until 30 April 2010 for the general
and posters sessions.
The delegates proposing a presentation in a thematic session will be
informed by the end of December 2009 if their presentation is accepted
as an oral or a poster presentation. Only minor changes will be possible
afterwards. It will be possible to slightly modify the titles and
abstracts of the presentations until 30 April 2010.
The registration fees are as follows:
Membership status
Through 30 April 2010
After 30 April 2010
ICAZ member (at least for year 2010)
€ 280
€ 350
Non-member
€ 360
€ 450
Student
€ 150
€ 180
Non-member student
€ 200
€ 240
The fees have been recently reduced, especially for ICAZ members and
students .
The registration fees may seem higher than those of the previous ICAZ
conferences. In addition to the increase of the cost of living, this is
mainly due to the fact that four lunches are included into the
registration fees (ca. € 40). The organizing committee has chosen the
option of having lunches at the nearby restaurant of the University
staff, located within five minutes from the conference rooms and
uniquely devoted to the ICAZ conference during that week, for the
following reasons: 1) it will avoid that the delegates disperse away
from the conference centre at lunch-time; 2) it is difficult to find
restaurants or grocery stores that are open in August near the Jussieu
campus; 3) the proposed rate for the lunches is very reasonable.
Allowing for the difference in the exchange rates, the registration fee
of the Paris Conference (minus these 40 €) for the ICAZ members are only
2% higher than those for the 2002 conference in Durham:
The organizing committee is headed by Jean-Denis Vigne, Marylène
Patou-Mathis and Christine Lefèvre, and also includes Sandrine Grouard,
Joséphine Lesur-Gébremariam, Stéphane Péan, Anne Tresset and Carole
Vercoutère.
