Dear Christian and all,
A complete peacock femur has been identified from Muslim levels
(9th-10th-centuries) at Silves castle, in southern Portugal. As far as I
am aware of this is the first time peacock has been found in the Iberian
Peninsula. My colleague Carlos Pimenta from the IGESPAR Archaeozoology
lab and I will present this and other bird finds from Silves castle next
week in a conference in that Portuguese locality. Hopefully, publication
will follow.
Best regards
Marta
