Thanks for this suggestion.
The X11-server I have on Mac OS X 10.5.8 (Leopard) is:
XQuartz 2.1.6 (xorg-server 1.4.2-apple33)
And xdpyinfo tells me the following about the resolution:
resolution: -2147483648x-2147483648 dots per inch
I did not change anything in the X11 settings, as far as I can recall.
With your suggestion that X11 might be the problem here, I simply
tried quitting X11 completely, and starting it back up. And now Gaia
starts without a problem. Perhaps my X11 had been running so long
without being restarted that something went wrong there...
