It was in the 1990s and at Hauterive in Switzerland and during Lent AND in
the Alpes or near enough. Hauterive is Cistercian not Trappist.
I was there in pursuit of their 4th Abbot (or was he their fifth or even
sixth ?) a lad named Astralabe ........ (ruled 1162-1164) so the occasion
for the visit was specifically mediaeval.
And deeply memorable.
