Not sure whether there was a reply on this. However, I would seek further
information about family history and cholesterol levels in first degree
relatives before deciding how to proceed. She may possibly have FH, but if
there is no family history and relatives appear to have unremarkable
cholesterol I would probably refer to primary prevention charts.
I might measure hsCRP or get carotid IMT before deciding, but that is a
completely new discussion.....

59 year old lady
No signs of FH, well, no symptoms of IHD
Very healthy diet, alcohol intake ok
Non smoker, BP 120/85, no DM
Fasting lipids (checked x2)
Chol = 8.6
Trig = 1.2
HDL = 2.74
Total chol/ HDL ratio = 3.1
LFT / U+E / TFT normal
Has 2 children in their 20's
Do I assume familial and start statin or go by primary
prevention charts (risk <10%)
