Dear Erik,
Many thanks for this. Given the source of my reference, in an article
on Gothic portal sculpture, I suspect that the prayer had become part of
the liturgy of the dead somewhat earlier, by the early 13th century at
least. For the benefit of one who is woefully ignorant of things
liturgical, could you point me towards a published source for the
Dominican use you specify?
