We have done a similar project at a small Museum in Heptonstall where internet access was not practical due to lack of cables and poor network links. We worked with a local company who specialise in website design to produce a stand alone machine. In this situation you can turn the initial problem of no internet into an advantage. It allows full screen images and (in our case) video to run at fast speeds and give instant access. No worries about connection failures, viruses or hackers (though some have still tried).
For the images we used we actually created new records as numbers were relatively small. However, the next phase aims to start adding some of the thousands of photographs we have in reserve. These are recorded on MODES so I would also be interested in any replies. We are due to upgrade to Modes.xml if I can get the funding sometime in the future.
Feel free to contact me offlist if you want to discuss this.

Subject: Public Access Database
We are looking at installing an in gallery PC to give the public access
to our reserve photographic collection - about 7000 images. The
collection is catalogued on MODES for Windows.
I was wondering if anyone on the list had done a similar project and
what programmes you may have used to give access to the data?
Just to clarify this is an in gallery searchable database, the PC will
not be networked and not online.
Thanks for any assistance
