The cost of health care is always a point of controversy, not only with
physicians and health care providers but also with patients. This is
especially a problem when trusts across the UK have different policies
on the provision of new and expensive treatments, resulting in the 'post
code lottery' that is reported on so much in the press... It is no
wonder that physicians feel uncomfortable considering the cost
implications of new treatments when they have little influence over the
policy maker who decide whether a treatment should be made available or
not.
