Are you a skilled Java developer with enthusiasm for the cultural
sector? Do you like both programming and supervising technical
colleagues? Do you like working in a project-orientated environment?
Would you like to work in an international team? Then come and join The
European Library team based in the Research and Development department
of the National Library of the Netherlands in The Hague.
We are looking for a Senior Java Developer who can lead the technical
development and maintenance of The European Library. As the Senior
Developer you will be responsible for supervising and coaching junior
developers in addition to writing code. Leading the software development
for our technical team, you will need to ensure that good software
development practices are used and that suitable technical documentation
is provided. You will also be the key technical point of contact for
our hosting partner. Our technical team is advised by The European
Library's Technical Working Group - made up of technical experts from
each of our partner libraries. You will take on an active role within
this group and be expected to take a lead in some of its activities. In
addition, you will lead the provision of technical support for our
partners in liaison with our account coordinators. Maintaining a good
awareness of software developments relevant to The European Library
portal will be important for this position. There will also be the
opportunity to participate in technical research and development
projects. Some European travel will be required.
Profile
*University-educated Senior Java Developer (5 years+ experience)
*Experience in the technologies used by The European Library:
-Java - J2EE with the Spring Framework and Maven
-Hibernate, PostgreSQL
-SOLR / Lucene
-XML, XSLT
-FreeMarker templates, Google Web Toolkit
-Subversion (SVN), Trac
*Enthusiasm for the cultural sector - ideally, some of your programming
experience will have been gained in a library, museum, archive or within
the publishing sector
*Initiative and problem-solving skills
*Ability to work independently and also in a team
*Commitment and energy
*Good level of spoken and written English
