For immediate release
BioMed Central partners with AuthorMapper
BioMed Central, the world's largest open access publisher with over 200
peer-reviewed journals, has teamed up with AuthorMapper.com and
SpringerExemplar.com to add data for its 60,000+ published articles to
both platforms.
"Providing the scientific community with additional assistance in
research is the goal of these services. Adding additional publisher
metadata increases AuthorMapper's value and we hope to continue to
incorporate content from other publishers onto these free platforms,"
said Dr. Olaf Ernst, Springer's President of eProducts and Innovation.
"We are very pleased that BioMed Central's articles can now be
visualized using AuthorMapper," said Matthew Cockerill, Managing
Director, BioMed Central. "This tool will assist researchers, funders,
librarians and policymakers in identifying important scientific trends
and research patterns. The inclusion of BioMed Central's articles makes
it possible to demonstrate the spread of open access publishing both
geographically and across disciplines. Meanwhile, SpringerExemplar.com
provides an extremely useful way to see the context in which different
keywords are used within the full text of BioMed Central's articles."

Notes to Editors:
1. BioMed Central (www.biomedcentral.com) is an STM (Science, Technology
and Medicine) publisher which has pioneered the open access publishing
model. All peer-reviewed research articles published by BioMed Central
are made immediately and freely accessible online, and are licensed to
allow redistribution and reuse. BioMed Central is part of Springer
Science+Business Media, a leading global publisher in the STM sector.
2. Springer Science+Business Media (www.springer.com/) is one of the
world's leading suppliers of scientific and specialist literature. It
is the second-largest publisher of journals in the science, technology,
and medicine (STM) sector, the largest publisher of STM books and the
largest business-to-business publisher in the German-language area. The
group publishes over 1,700 journals and more than 5,500 new books a
year, as well as the largest STM eBook Collection worldwide, currently
offering approximately 28,000 titles. In 2004, Springer launched
Springer Open ChoiceTM, its open access offering for authors and
institutions. Springer has operations in about 20 countries in Europe,
the USA, and Asia, and some 5,000 employees. In 2007, it generated
annual sales of around EUR 906 million.
3. AuthorMapper (www.AuthorMapper.com), launched in February of 2009 as
a free website providing an analytical online tool for discerning
trends, patterns and subject experts within scientific research. Since
its launch, the scientific community has given valuable input to assist
in the growth and success of the platform. AuthorMapper.com searches
over three million journal articles to deliver a variety of useful
analyses including an interactive Google map of the results, keyword tag
clouds, and "Top 5" bar charts for various important metrics. This
allows exploration of scientific research patterns, identification of
trends in the literature, discovery of wider scientific relationships,
and locating other experts in a field of study. Publishers interested in
including their STM article metadata on AuthorMapper and/or in Exemplar
