Hi Gunnar and Robert,
As a designer who's been completing pg qualifications in adult
education these past 7 years, including working my way towards a PhD
through Education rather than design, I have found it immensely
useful to draw on educational research about 'learning' to inform my
teaching (in design and education) and also my knowledge of how I
learn in design.
I still identify as 'designer', yet have found it useful to integrate
design knowledge with research that originates in other disciplines,
specifically education, cultural studies and feminist studies. It
strengthens my understanding of what I do, how I do it, and also how
I learn. Most particularly, reading educational research has been
immensely useful for my ongoing development of more
effective/authentic/useful assessment processes, structures and
practices for design education. After all, the core business of the
university is education (=learning?) is it not?
cheers, teena
