hi,
there was some interest on this list recently in a Bruce Archer paper.
With this in mind, I thought I'd let the list know about the V&A's AAD
archive at Blythe house. This has hundreds of different collections,
I spent some time on Friday looking at the archive of the "Department
of Design Research" that Bruce Archer lead a the RCA from 1967 - 1987.
It's a fairly huge archive of material including administrative
documents, files relating to all the jobs done by the department,
slides, audio and video tapes.
The archive was partially sorted by Archer in 1990 but according to
the librarian is still "in a bit of a mess", though thoroughly
engrossing. I've included a link here for a list of the AV material as
an example of what is there. I should say that I have not checked that
all these items are actually there. Additionally the archivist is
trying to track down a machine to play the ancient video formats. As
luck would have it, Blythe house has a fairly huge collection of
electronic products.
Additionally, I'm told that the RCA has acquired Archers personal
papers, and an index of this will be made available shortly when this
material is fully prepared.
bests,
Tobie
