Lesley,
Kaplan (Clinical Chemistry): „The three serum enzymes used most
frequently for this purpose (diagnosis of muscle disorders), in order of
their general usefulness, are CK, ASAT, and aldolase.“
Tietz (Clinical Chemistry): „In general, measurement of aldolase
activity in serum does not provide information that is not available
more readily by measurement of other, more easily assayed enzymes, such
as ASAT, LDH, and specifically CK.“
Kooman/Boulware/Heudebert (Clinical Primer of Rheumatology) with regard
to inflammatory myopathies: "The most frequently measured enzyme is CK,
because of its high sensitivity, muscle specificity, and relatively good
correlation with disease activity and muscle strength."
Conclusion: No aldolase anymore, please.
