Session abstract: Palaeoecology and its role in archaeology: current
research and future directions
The conference theme of 'Old Guard, New Guard' is reflected in this
session which focuses on current and future research in the study of
palaeoecology in archaeology. Palaeoecology is a multidisciplinary field
that draws from zooarchaeology, taphonomy and palaeobotany. It examines
how humans interacted with the environment via the study of animal
and/or plant remains. Palaeoecological studies can provide important
interpretive and conceptual frameworks for understanding the
archaeological record and reconstructing patterns of human behaviour at
various times in the past.
Please feel free to contact us with any questions or to distribute this
to interested colleagues where appropriate.
Best wishes,
Jillian Garvey - [log in to unmask]
