as i said, unless i'm having (yet another) Senior Moment, there's a quite
"Romanesque" circular or octagonal one in Laon, dating from, perhaps, before
1150.
the Second Crusade no doubt gave them a Big Boost --they were powerful in the
Chartrain, esp. at the end of the century, when the Countess of Chartres,
sitting in for her crusading husband, took up residence in the village of
Sours, which was the center of their commanderie in the region.
