hello Louisa,
Kirklees libraries (West Yorkshire) are gradually extending our services in
respect of the above...
In conjunction with our basic services / free internet access we offer:
- a Basic Information Technology Session (BITS) jobsearch package which has
been developed by librarians. This looks at how to use selected websites for
searching for jobs, writing CVs, getting advice on applications and
interviews etc…These are initially delivered one-to-one but the users are
then able to access them at any library and whenever is convenient for them.
- longer computer access for those seeking or applying for jobs online, or
using the BITS packages, on computers which we keep free for this purpose.
- a menu of other BITS dealing specifically with basic IT skills.
- weekly careers advice sessions run by ‘Careers4Adults’ (sic) at the
central library in Huddersfield and regular careers and money advice
sessions run by partner organisations in other branches.
- we have developed closer links with agencies such as Jobcentre plus,
Connexions Worklink and various employment agencies. As a result we have up
to date leaflet and information displays.
- we also promote access to Learning Line via courtesy ‘phones in most
branches and are working with our Neighbour Learning network in developing
an online database detailing learning/training opportunities and providers.
