THE BIG MATCH
Then the whistle blew and the game was on
With incredible intensity, players
Beautiful as butterflies swarming in the mist
Rugby of some sort, I hovered in a haze
As a nuggety bloke in a pearl-pink shirt
Drove up into my ribs and winded me,
Then a bloke in a gold jersey stomped
Over the top of me like a mammoth
And as this happened it was so funny,
A hand holding a glass of beer appeared
From the bottom right hand corner of the TV screen,
Offered the beer to the viewer for a while, then vanished
I nearly cracked myself while the score
Was four-nil, full credit to myself
I said, the coach snarling like a panther,
Prawns in the stands sizzling like sauce,
The crowd had forgot to take their medications and went hyper
As a bloke in a beautiful silky midnight blue desk
Stomped over me like a wave and I broke,
Lay awake on the pitch at midnight, staring at the stars.
