As of October 1st, 2009, the Research Institute for History and Culture
(OGC) at Utrecht University makes available 2 one-year grants (extendable
for two more consecutive years upon satisfactory performance review) for
starting up a PhD-research project. The grants involve research training and
aim at the completion of a PhD dissertation within a maximum of three years.
The PhD must be pursued and completed at Utrecht University.
Who can apply?
The 2 grants are available for students who are non-Dutch residents and will
graduate as MPhil no later than August 31st, 2009.
Grant conditions
The grant amounts to a monthly sum of € 1.400, payable at the beginning of
each month. The grant may be extended upon positive evaluation of the
student's progress by a further year (with a maximum of three years). The
grant entitles students to supervision, office and library facilities, as
well as participation in the institute's support system for research-related
expenses.
How to apply?
The deadline for receipt of applications is August 1st, 2009. Applications
(by regular mail or by e-mail) should include:
* a letter of motivation
* a 3-5 p project proposal (a research question well-grounded in
existing literature supplemented with a research strategy and provisional
workplan)
* a curriculum vitae
* a transcript of academic results
* an MA thesis (or written coursework if the MA thesis is not yet available)
* certified copies of relevant diplomas
* contact details of two referees (names, affiliations and phone numbers
or e-mail addresses). Preferably, reference letters are included.
