Hello Sarah (and Everyone)
For an account of my own school-based research you could see the summary
produced for my presentation at the National Teacher Research Panel (NTRP)
Conference 2006 at
www.standards.dcsf.gov.uk/ntrp/lib/pdf/seal.pdf
But briefly, the research question arose primarily from the needs I had
identified as head of department in my own and colleagues classrooms and
was also influenced by a whole-school focus on literacy skills. In the
early stages of the research we were supported in refining the question
and using the Research Lesson Study protocol by Pete Dudley (then of the
NCSL) and the other practitioners who made up the Research Lesson Study
Development Group. Our research question was 'How can we encourage pupil
dialogue in collaborative group work?' Within school (and across our local
network of schools) we worked as a practitioner research team and so were
able to co-coach each other. Later on I was given support and advice from
CUREE and the NTRP in formally presenting our findings.
