medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
John,
It was Caspar's merit (as we classicists say) to recognize in BHL 6072 (which he then edited from Vallicellianus VIII, fols. 43r-45v) a source text for Peter the Deacon's own _Passio sanctorum martyrum Atinensium Nicandri et Marciani_ (like P.'s other contributions in his Atina dossier, not recorded in the Bollandists' _Bibliotheca Hagiographica Latina Manuscripta_). He printed it so one could see the borrowings for what they are. Bloch's edition of the latter text (_Atina Dossier_, pp. 207-14) identifies P.'s borrowings from BHL 6072 by printing them in italics.
Best,
John Dillon
