medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Hello everyone,
I have been struggling with a translation of the first lines of an eremitic constitution written for
the Monastery of Montserrat in 1494. It begins with a quote from Aristotle's Politics, then turns
to the subject of quies. I could really use some help with the section that begins after
principalissimi.
Although every society is established with the view of some good, nevertheless we believe that
the first society was founded by the cause of the highest principal good, so that we can devote
ourselves to holy religion and the immortal God, indeed with the highest peace and tranquility of
our souls.
Thanks in advance,
Daniel
