well, yes, and that's all fine and good, John, but your otherwise exhaustive
post forgot to mention that V. is the patron saint of dancers, too.

the Cistercian-like severity of this structure today is misleading.
look closely enough and the remains of what was surely an extensive fresco
program which covered all surfaces of this beauty can be seen.
in neither of these shots, however, can one spot the pitifully few remains of
what was surely an equally extensive program in stucco --"ornament" and
figures alike.
the importance of stucco work, which was originally found all over Europe
throughout the early and high m.a. --and 99.9999% of which has been lost--
has, in recent years, begun to get some of the recognition that it deserves.
the stucco at Corvey was uncovered in the '90s of the last millennium and
published here:
