Yes, that is very true - actually more true. I forget now where I read the note about distinguishing the person holding it from a bishop - it may have been the
online Catholic Encyclopedia, it may have also been an old liturgical text. I just figured it was (marginally) more relevant to the discussion of mitre's and
status than the more mundane issue of keeping it clean.
But, yeah, it keeps it clean.
Which, in the case of the liturgy I was planning, was rather important since the kid that was mitre-bearing works on a farm.
With cows.

which, incidentially, were a source of hides for books. . . still are, actually.
