After reading the recent article in 'Update' about the ENQUIRE service, I must
say that I get the feeling that there is some positive spin going on. Speaking
for myself, and not my colleagues, I find participating in ENQUIRE a joyless and
frustrating experience.
I recently spent an hour sitting in front of a PC and received the grand total
of 4 online enquires, 3 of which were virtually undecipherable and the other
one about renewing books in a Library Authority in North-East England. The
latter being a common one as a lot of users don't seem to realise that they
are not talking to their local library!
I have never been asked about the service by any Library user and never
heard it discussed at any Library conference.
I think in theory that it is a great concept but from my own experience not a
great way to use staff time.
