Dear zooarchaers,
the calculation of the percentage of similarity of faunal (or other) samples requires summing the lowest percentage of each animal, according to Reitz and Wing (2008:115, quoting Krebs 1989:307).
Now, in two samples I am trying to compare this way, there are several taxa with equal percentage values (e.g. felines: 2% NISP in sample 1 and 2% NISP in sample 2). By summing up all the minimum percentages for all the taxa for calculating the percentage similarity, do I have to sum two times 2% NISP in these cases or must I only use one of those values?
It seems only logic to use only one of these equal percentages for the calculation, but I just wanted to check this to be sure.
Thanks in advance,
Chris
