Many thanks to everyone who responded to my request for reference materials! I see Lisa Hodgetts has responded to the list and I am waiting to hear from Jan as to whether I can post his reply to BoneCommons. In the meantime, once again, thanks to all.

Hi all,
I posted a query about this a couple of years ago and was directed to Volume Two of
Lisa Hodgetts PhD. It provides illustrations, photographs and criteria for distinguishing between six with North Atlantic phocid seal species.

Hi Sheila, Ariane, Mrs. Zogg and everybody else interested,
reading the paper of Ericson & Storå carefully I have to admit it is
not the one I had in mind. I saw it once during a stay in Helsinki
University but had no chance to copy it then. It was a real ID-Guide
with criteria for the different seal species not only a osteometric
guide.
I hope someone can solve this. At least Jan himself should know.
Best
Christian
