you might want to use "spm clean" instead of "clear all" for SPM5/8 as
it also does a "clear classes" that is important when switching between
these 2 versions as some class definitions changed in between.
Also, you can use the following to make sure that *all* SPM versions
have been removed from the path:
while true
try, spm_rmpath; catch break; end
end

yes, it should work as well with SPM2, if included in the installation.
