medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
From: Frank Morgret <[log in to unmask]>
> If you look at Acts 6:1-5, you find the entire story of Stephen's selection
or ordination.
> In verse one, the word often translated "service" is, in the original Greek,
"diakonia".
> That may have had some weight in promoting the idea that Stephen was a
deacon.
i wish i could say that my thinking that S. couldn't have been a deacon was
based on my letch for only reading the NT in the Greek, and my correct
translating of _diakonia_ as "service."
alas, more likely was my misbelief that the whole Deal with Prothomartyrs was
that they were martyred before there was any "church" at all to be a diakonia
of.
