I'll second that recommendation. I've been using these now for almost a year and they are marvelous. Only caveat is that you have to watch them at high latitude as they tend to drift and you'll have to recalibrate the compass 2-3 times a day. The manual is also terrible--it is a poor translation from the Japanese manual. If you get one, I could probably help you figure it out if need be.

Hi Julia,
We've been hooking our Move2009 software up with GPS and digital compass
clino's for use in the field and we'd suggest you look at GSI's product:

Subject: Electronic compass
Dear all,
is anyone of you aware of an electronic compass useful for structural
measurements of dip direction and dip of planes in one step (in 0-360°), and
also plunge direction and plunge of lineations in one step? I'm aware of the
Breithaupt Tectronics (www.breithaupt.de), however I'd be looking for one
with an internal rechargeable battery rather than an external one that needs
to be plugged in and carried extra. The non-rechargeable batteries of the
tectronics don't seem to last very long and therefore form a major
additional investment for a
4 month's field stay, exceeding the actual acquisition costs of the compass
itself.
Any suggestions would be highly appreciated.
Sincerely,
Julia Kramer
