I'm sure everyone will rush to tell you about Bryony Coles book,
Coles, B.J. 2006 "Beavers in Britain’s Past" WARP Occasional Paper 19.
Oxford: Oxbow
but it's a bit late for tomorrow. This isn't my field, but I know of
Iron Age finds in Haddenham & Market Deeping. They're not exactly East
Anglia, but they're at least in the ballpark.
Albarella, U. 1997. The Iron Age Animal Bone Excavated in 1991 from
Outgang Road, Market Deeping (MAD 91), Lincolnshire. London: English
Heritage, Ancient Monuments Lab. Report, 5/97.
Evans, C. and Serjeantson, D. 1988. The backwater economy of a fen-edge
community in the Iron Age: the Upper Delphs, Haddenham. Antiquity 62,
360-370.
A quote from Umberto's report above might be useful (p. 5):
"Beaver… is the best represented of the wild species, with a few bone
and tooth fragments – some of them "non countable" – all from phase 1.
The beaver became extinct in the British Isles by late Saxon times, but
one or two bones are found in most prehistoric bone assemblages, and it
is especially common in the East Anglian Fens (Corbet and Harris 1991).
This suggests a specific interest of the Iron Age inhabitants of the
Fenlands in the exploitation of this aquatic resource, possibly for meat
but more likely for fur. Beaver bones are remarkably frequent at the
Iron Age Fenland site of Upper Delphs, Haddenham (Evans and Serjeantson
1988)."

Blackwell.]
I can send you a pdf of the Evans & Serjeantson Haddenham paper, if you
want it.
