Hi Ken and everyone,
I agree with Ken, who put it beautifully "systems thinking generally applies
to holistic concepts of organizations and systems, and it has evolved to
include complexity theory and ways to examine the simple laws and processes
that give rise to complex adaptive systems." ]
Systems Thinking as a field has a really useful set of of tools that are
often ignored or misunderstood in design.
There are half a dozen classic well-tested classic systems approaches really
useful in design research. To get info about systems thinking could have
been easier though.
My little publishing company now has Bill Hutchinson's 'Systems Thinking and
Associated Methodologies' available as an e-book for download at a price to
cover costs. We also sell hardcopy versions if you want an original! Bill's
book on Systems Thinking is used as the text for a university unit to
introduce the key Systems Thinking ideas to professionals. Bill is
internationally well known in the systems field for his design and research
work across many types of systems from very large to very small-scale
systems.
