As a Benedictine (Oblate these days) this makes me feel much better about my personal caloric intake ;-)).
We used to have a slogan "Join the Monastery and See the World" . . . but I digress.
Back to the issue of membership numbers: would it not be easier to combine records of profession with records of death and come up with a moderately
accurate monastic population? Or are such records sketchy at best for the period under consideration?
