PhD Research studentship: planning and regeneration
Applications are invited for a full-time ESRC quota studentship, to commence
in October 2009, in the School of Built and Natural Environment, University
of the West of England, Bristol. Students can apply for a 1+3 (ESRC
recognised Masters linked into a PhD) or a +3 (PhD studies only).
The School of Built and Natural Environment is a leading centre for research
in planning, regeneration and environmental policy and practice, with a
substantial programme of research funded by EU, Government and Research
Councils. There are currently around 50 postgraduate research students
studying in the School, associated with significant research groups in
Cities, Environment and Planning, Transport and Society, Property and
Construction, and Leisure, Tourism and Society.
Should the successful applicant propose a research topic in the area of
‘Transport and Society’ he or she would be jointly supervised by academics
from the Centre for Transport & Society (CTS) www.transport.uwe.ac.uk

centre which aims to improve and promote understanding of the inherent links
between lifestyles and personal travel in the context of continuing social
and technological change.
The studentship is available for a well-motivated and suitably-qualified
candidate with clearly-defined research interests in any area related to
planning, transport or regeneration. Applicants should have a good honours
degree (minimum 2.1) or a Masters degree in an appropriate subject.
The studentship is for three years and covers fees and a tax-exempt stipend
(£13,290 for the 2009/10 academic year with cost of living adjustments in
years 2 and 3). Eligibility is restricted to UK residents. EU residents are
eligible for fees only studentships. The closing date is 27 March 2009.
