Hi Kirti
Good luck in your search for an opening.
Unfortunately I have nothing to offer you but I do urge you and other
transport academics to look at how mass rapid transit, roads and other
transport infrastructure and services add to surrounding land values.
If we collect this value for the public purse (using annual land value tax
on all land) it would be possible to enhance existing public transport
services, reduce fares and build new infrastructure without creating
additional tax burdens on wage earners, businesses or consumers.
For details of a book on this subject see the Institute of Economic Affairs'
website:
http://www.iea.org.uk/record.jsp?ID=307&type=book where for £2 you can
purchase a hard copy of Fred Harrison's book "Wheels of Fortune" or download
a free copy.
For more information re Annual Land Value Tax see
www.LabourLand.org<http://www.labourland.org/>or google "LVT land
tax", books by the 19th Century economist "Henry George"
are also well worth studying.
